Prices in London hotels up

Hotels - 29/11/2006 15:39:39

London hotel prices continue to rise, showing that the city is welcoming more tourists than ever, according to the latest figures.

Other regions too saw a dramatic rise in average room rates with Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham and Manchester faring particularly well, research by consultancy firm PKF revealed.

The cost of a room in the capital was up by 10.7 per cent compared to the same period last year and the daily room occupancy increased by 7.6 per cent.

Other UK cities saw similar success in the hotel industry with Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham and Manchester all having higher occupancy and average room rates than October 2005.

Robert Barnard, hotel consultancy services partner at PKF, said: "This month's figures are encouraging and we are confident that in 2006 the UK hotel market will see the best performance in a decade.

"Occupancy in London hotels has reached a level not seen since 1997 whilst average room rate is at record levels. Meanwhile we expect regional hotels to continue delivering steady growth rates."
