A new guide has been launched to promote the north-east as a top tourist destination.

The 2007 Group Travel Guide to North East England contains information on hotels, tourist attractions, venues and places of historical interest in the region.

Northumberland, County Durham, Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, North and South Tyneside and Tees Valley are all covered by the guide, which can be ordered from the North East England Travel Trade Department.

According to tourism officials in the north-east, the area is already successful with visitors as it is open and accessible while being safe and secure.

There are also good facilities and many attractions and hotels that will happily accommodate and cater for large groups.

The guide was launched by regional development agency One North East at a high profile business-generating Group Travel Road conference where local businesses, including hotels and restaurants, were able to meet tourism industry bosses.

One North East claims that the information held within the guide is themed to make it easier for visitors to the region to understand and comprehend what the area has to offer.

This includes hotels and restaurants near to top attractions that can be booked for small or large group parties.
