Manchester hotels get 'green guide'

Hotels - 08/12/2006 17:06:58

A new green guide for hotels has been launched by Manchester City Council which aims to give accommodation providers advice on how to cut down on the environmental impact of events held in the area.

Greening Your Event gives information on how to do more when it comes to reducing dangerous emissions and picking less harmful transport options when planning and conducting occasions.

Key areas covered by the unique booklet include choosing appropriate places to hold conferences and insuring that public transport is used where possible.

It also gives managers and organisers tips on dealing with waste management and using sustainable foods to ensure they use local or fair trade products.

Richard Morrell, general manager of the Palace Hotel, said: "We rigorously promote energy conversation, with targets for savings across the hotel; we encourage the use of tap rather than bottled water and encourage our guests to use public transport."

"The Greening Your Event guide can assist both the hotel and our event organisers to reduce our environmental impact. We will be pleased to offer a copy of the guide to anyone who holds an event at the hotel".
