Hotel plans scuppered by fake objection letters

It has been reported that someone is sending fake letters of objection to a local council in a bid to halt plans to build a hotel in their area.

According to the BBC, publican Sandy Craig is looking to build the first pub in the village of Tweedbank in Scotland, a plan that has been warmly welcomed by locals.

However he also hopes to build a hotel across the road for people to stay when they visit his establishment, but Scottish Borders Council have received several letters of complaint about his proposals.

But after thanking one couple in the village for sending in their views on the hotel plans, it has emerged that the couple in question did not write the letter and that someone had in fact faked it.

Council officials are now checking the authenticity of the rest of the letters to determine whether local objection to the hotel is as strong as they had believed.

If the letters are found to be fake, Mr Craig could be given permission to go ahead with his plans to build a pub and hotel in the village, which lies between Galashiels and Melrose and close to Gunknowe Loch in the Scottish Borders countryside.
