East needs more hotels

The east of England is lacking in hotels, good roads and convention facilities, business delegates said yesterday.
Business leaders at a conference in Stansted Airport said that towns such as Ipswich were not doing enough to encourage tourists and new companies to come to the area.
Speakers said that although eastern England had many good qualities including airport links, historic buildings and a good quality of life, more investment was needed in accommodation, roads and facilities for business people.
More than 180 delegates attended the conference aimed at showing business leaders how locating in the east of England could mean big profits.
But George Kieffer, deputy chair at the East of England Development Agency, said that despite the positive aspects, "our stock of hotel accommodations is in need of quite significant development to be able to play at the level we want to play at".
He added that the quality of a place was the "driver" in encouraging tourists and business people to invest in the area.
