Cat at centre of hotel bill rift

A cat named Hamish has caused a row over an unpaid animal hotel bill of £350 after he went AWOL during a burglary.

The owner of Hamish - who has now turned up - Eleanor Brazendale, is now being threatened with legal action by Belthorn Cattery unless she pays the outstanding debt.

On returning home following a holiday in the south of France, the Brazendale family found that only four of their five cats were present at the cattery with Hamish missing. As a result, Ms Brazendale refused to pay the £350 charged for all of the cats.

Hamish had managed to escape from the Belthorn Cattery after burglars raided the property over the August bank holiday this year but reappeared at a local pub where the landlord recognised the cat from posters around the area.

Cattery owner Lynne Booth stated: "I'm not going to charge them for the one that went missing but I want paying for looking after the other four and if we do not get paid we will have to go to the small claims court.

"I don't want to do this but I'll be writing to her to inform her and give her seven days to pay."
