The average British woman spends around £36,903.75 on her hair in a lifetime be it at the hairdressers or just buying a brush, new research has shown.
The poll of 2,500 women conducted by Boots also revealed that she will spend the equivalent of just under two years of her life washing, styling, cutting, colouring, crimping and straightening her tresses in salons or at home.
Straight hair is preferred to curls by over two thirds of women and 48 per cent of those regularly try to achieve poker-straight hair by using straightening irons or specialized products.
A monthly average of £10.08 is spent on the latest shampoos and conditioners, £14.03 on home styling products and £301.14 a year on haircuts and colouring.
One third of women say their hair is the most important part of their appearance and that more time is spent styling their hair than choosing what to wear or putting on make-up.
Brunette was the colour most desired with 43 per cent of women choosing it to wear and 33 per cent would like to be blonde. Out of the poll, 12 per cent wanted to be redheads.
