Hairdressing the 'most iconic' job

Hairdressers and celebrities have the most "iconic" jobs of the 21st Century, according to a recent report.
A study undertaken by the Work Foundation think tank has found that hairdressers are now part of a group of jobs which define the early part of the new century.
The report, Paradigm Trades: Iconic Jobs of the Early 21st Century says that the rise in popularity of becoming a hairdresser is because society is "transfixed by the pursuit of physical excellence".
According to the report, the number of British hairdressers has grown by 302 per cent since the 1990s and now stands at 146,000, while the number of beauticians has gone up by 10,000 in four years.
Other jobs highlighted in the report as showcasing what employment in the early 21st Century is all about include managers and management consultants, alongside celebrities.
But hairdressers were seen as the leading archetypal job for the modern day employee as they involve "people-handling, interpersonal, empathetic, client-centric, getting-along-with type skills".
However, the study noted that hairdressers will never die out as the service cannot be outsourced or computerised.
