Hairdresser gives eight-year old the chop

An eight-year old Falkirk girl has made her first trip to the hairdressers to raise money for charity.

Rebecca Scott has agreed to have her hair cut to raise money for Strathcarron Hospice after it helped her step-dad in his battle against cancer.

Robert Scott, 41, was diagnosed with sarcoma leg cancer in 2004 and was a regular visitor to the hospice throughout his treatment.

Visiting Chaplins hairdressers in Falkirk town centre, Ms Scott had the first trim of her eight year life and even donated the hair that was cut off to charity, so it could be made into wigs for other cancer patients.

Speaking to Falkirk Today, Mr Scott said: "I couldn't believe it when Rebecca's mum Claire told me what Rebecca wanted to do – I was in tears.

"She decided by herself that the time had come to get her hair cut and that she wanted to make it special, so this is what she came up with. I'm so proud of her."

So far, little Ms Scott's trip to the hairdressers has raised £400 but she hopes to get closer to £600 before she donates the money.
