A veritable Hollywood treasure trove is to be auctioned in the new year, including the resolution to a mystery plaguing hairdressers for some time.
In the classic film from 1956 Love Me Tender, Elvis Presley's hair altered from blonde to jet black during filming and the reason can be revealed - he was allowed to style his own barnet.
20th Century Fox is to sell many other items alongside the document detailing Elvis' preference for personal hair care including contracts showing the pay packets of both Marlon Brando and Cary Grant.
Tom Rothman, chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, told Variety magazine: "These papers are so cool that, as a fan of that history, I will have to restrain myself from bidding."
"Fox's heritage reflects Hollywood itself and our archives are a Tut's tomb of movie history. This donation is intended to get the past out of file cabinets into the hands of film lovers, and let it serve the present through the Motion Picture and Television Fund."
Among the items up for auction are also a contract stipulating that Laurel and Hardy sort out their own costumes and paperwork showing Humphrey Bogart's salary.
In a separate auction involving Elvis memorabilia is a song called Just Like Rollin' Up Hill that goes under the hammer in January and requires an opening bid of $10,000 (£5,000).
