Belfast council blamed for hairdresser's appalling look

A hairdresser in Belfast has been left without a shop front after council officials stripped it as part of a renovation scheme.

Jean Davis claims that her hairdressing salon was scheduled for a makeover as part of Belfast City Council's "Renewing the Routes" scheme, but has now been told that the plans have been scrapped.

This has left her shop, Unique Hair Design, without tiles, an awning or a sign – and has left Ms Davis out of pocket.

Speaking to Sunday Life, Ms Davis said: "They came along and took all of the tiles off, all of the signs off and my awning down, before saying 'oh, you haven't got a steel beam, so we can't put electric shutters in for you'.

"We have been sitting like an absolute tip since April. They said they're going to put us back to the way we were, but we have been left like turkeys with the feathers pulled out. Worse still, they are refusing to cover the costs of our solicitor's fees."

Ms Davis claims to have spent around £600 on solicitors to prove that she owns that shop in an attempt to get the council to reverse the work they carried out to the salon.
