Northwich florist's shuts after 70 years

A Northwich business man has expressed his sadness at having to shut a florist's which has been open in the town for 70 years.

Ian Lloyd has claimed that changes in shopping styles have made it impossible for the Flower Shop to continue and he has been forced to close the doors for the last time after nearly thee quarters of a decade serving people.

Mr Lloyd said that there has been a consistent slump in flower sales in recent years with more people ordering online than ever before.

Speaking to This Is Cheshire, he said: "It was a case of looking at the business and deciding what was working and what wasn't.

"People are ordering flowers from the internet rather than calling into the shop."

John Turner, a fellow florist from Northwich, has said that there are too many florists in the town, with some firms struggling and others showing an upturn in trade.

However, Mr Lloyd has only ceased the sale of flowers and has transferred all over retail operations from the Flower Shop to his other business in Wilmslow.
