The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has selected a new chief executive who is hoping to encourage its ongoing expansion.

Michael Izza has been named as head of the ICAEW, which has around 128,000 members and an annual income of £62 million.

In particular, Mr Izza, who has extensive experience within the industry and retail sectors, is proposing to develop a support network for accountants throughout the UK, as well as ensuring the ICAEW's expansion as one of the key bodies representing accountants.

The Durham University graduate also wants to provide members with information and advice that will help to strengthen their careers as accountants.

"My priorities in taking on this role will be to accelerate our international expansion and to continue our drive to enhance the support we provide to our members," explained Mr Izza in the Buckinghamshire Free Press.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge of leading one of the world's most respected accountancy bodies and taking advantage of the opportunities that are ahead of us."
