New guidance issued for estate agents

Estate Agents - 03/11/2006 12:54:27

The National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) launched a model "terms and conditions of business" for estate agents at its first residential sales forum this week.

Held in Coventry, the event gave agents the chance to get to grips with the new set of guidelines which has been produced in a joint venture with the Office of Fair Trading.

The terms and conditions are aimed at helping salespeople across the UK get to grips with laws on consumer contracts.

Peter Bolton King, chief executive at the NAEA, said of the new publication: "With the legislative requirements for estate agents becoming increasingly complex, it is more importantthan ever to be clear when drawing up a contract."

Other issues discussed at the forum include the latest on the controversial Home Improvement Packs, which have been widely debated by estate agents, ministers and homeowners for many months.

E-conveyancing was also on the agenda as well as a seminar on the current state of the housing market and where it was going in terms of the economy and interest rates.
