Estate agents in rural Britain are loosing out as people living in the countryside struggle to find affordable housing, a spokesperson for the National Housing Federation (NHF) said today.
People living outside of cities are suffering from a severe shortage of housing, leaving it difficult for estate agents to churn up business.
A huge increase in the cost of holiday homes following those living in the city purchasing property in desirable countryside locations is leaving local people priced out of the market.
An NHF spokesperson stressed the need for the government to help these people with investment in affordable housing.
He said: "We have a critical shortage of homes in many rural areas in the country particularly parts of the country that are holiday destinations.
"We need increased investment in affordable housing throughout the country, particularly for those who are being squeezed out of rural housing markets and to protect existing homes from being sold off as well."
