Many estate agents are reporting that UK buyers remain keen to purchase a holiday property both in the UK and abroad.
A new study by estate agents Halifax revealed that almost a third of all holiday homeowners have bought their second property in the UK, with Spain as the next most popular holiday home destination with 25 per cent opting to buy there.
Many people are keen to purchase a second-home as an ideal investment vehicle in the long-term, especially as house prices continue to rise within the UK.
In particular, holiday home buyers are attracted to the south-west region because of its wide range of facilities and good transport links.
The research also estimates that the number of holiday homes purchased is set to double in the future, with seven per cent of respondents confirming they are planning to purchase a holiday property before 2011.
Colin Kemp, the managing director of the Halifax, said: "By buying a holiday home that is within easy reach, they can enjoy their investment whilst hopefully earning money from it at the same time so it is not surprising that such a large number of people are choosing holiday homes in the UK."
