Online businesses cause 'web rage'

Business Support and Networking - 07/07/2006 14:12:38

People who shop online are increasingly suffering from "web rage" as they become more and more frustrated with retailers' websites, according to latest research.

A survey by web-testing specialist SciVisum reveals that 78 per cent of online shoppers are turning their backs on computers and heading back to the good old-fashioned high street.

A further one in three said they would not give their favourite website a second chance before turning back to the shops.

Figures show that the most annoying factor cited by online shoppers was the inability to ask questions by telephone, which frustrated 54 per cent of respondents,

Almost 50 per cent of those questioned said that website crashes while they were carrying out a transaction was one of their biggest annoyances.

Other grievances about online shopping included difficulty in finding information, a complicated registration process and the inability to amend orders once they had gone through.

"Online shoppers are showing zero tolerance to poor performance - and eTailers must follow this lead if they're to avoid losing their customers to competitors or the high street," comments Deri Jones, chief executive officer at SciVisum.
