The north east's development agency secured a £30 million funding deal with the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) to bring about more business support and networking to the region.
One NorthEast, which is the Regional Development Agency for Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham and Tees Valley, signed the deal with Business Link North East (BLNE).
The agreement means that BLNE will deliver business development services to the area after a long consultation process between the developing agency and the LSC.
The consultation is the first of its kind ever to take place in the UK and is designed to ensure that businesses get the best possible support and networking services.
One NorthEast chairman Margaret Fay said: "After an extensive and rigorous procurement process it is fantastic to get the contract signed and soon start delivering."
Paul Callaghan, chairman of BLNE, added: "We believe that our experience and track record of managing the current Business Link contracts will ensure a seamless transfer next year. We are looking forward to delivering a first class service to businesses across the north east."
