Music website thrives through business support

A Cardiff-based website has joined forces with a local business support agency in a bit to create a social network for unknown music artists.
Altsounds.com is currently attracting around 500,000 hits a day and it hopes that teaming up with Venture Wales will develop the online music database to rival the likes of MySpace.
Artists, industry bosses, bands and aspiring musicians all currently visit the site as a way of showcasing their talents and sharing tunes with other people. Unknown singers looking to upload songs and videos online are also provided with expertise and high-quality recording opportunities from state-of-the-art facilities in Cardiff Bay.
Founder Chris Maguire said: "I've been able to draw on my vast contact list spanning the USA, Europe and Japan to support the development of the abundance of talent we have in Wales.
"My overall aim is to get as many music recordings, biographies, photographs and demo tapes to the exacting standard record labels require and then help the artists to secure record deals across the world."
With business and funding advice from Venture Wales, Mr Maguire received £7,000 from Cardiff City Council's Entrepreneurship Fund to build the fully operational recording studio.
