EEIDB to deliver business support to the east

Business Support and Networking - 15/08/2006 14:15:21

Businesses in the east of England are to get greater access to business support and networking after the East of England Industrial Development Board (EEIDB) was awarded the contract to supply new services to the region.

Under the terms of the £45 million contract, EEIDB will provide the area with more Business Link advisors and specialists and specialists in rural businesses, women's enterprise and ICT.

EEIDB was named the preferred bidder to provide business support and networking to the east after it impressed the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) with its drive to bring "improvements to the quality, consistency and accessibility of Business Link services".

Simon Ash, head of business services at EEDA, said: "Not only will it increase the number of advisors and sector specialists, but also it will base advisors at 13 locations, allowing businesses in all parts of the region even greater access to services.

""We have every confidence that by working with EEIDB chief executive Pat Smith and his team, we will be able to provide an invaluable service that 'thinks regionally and acts locally'."

From April 2007, EEIDB will increase the number of on-the-ground advisors from 60 to 90 with plans to raise this to over 100 in the future.

Business Link is a government-run service offering advice and business support and networking to new and small business in regions across the UK.
