Business support to get overhaul

Business Support and Networking - 07/09/2006 14:37:34

Conservative MPs have launched a complete review of the government's business support and networking schemes in a bid to make them more efficient.

Undertaken by a group of independent business experts, the review will look at government organisations such as Business Link and the Small Business Service (SBS).

Tory MPs claim that the government currently spends £2.6 billion on 3,000 schemes and initiatives but to give UK businesses the best possible support and networking opportunities the whole system needs overhauling.

Shadow trade and industry secretary Alan Duncan said: "The government has created a confusing maze of money for businesses.

"It needs root and branch reform to ensure the UK is the best place to do business and that taxpayers get value for money."

The committee in charge of reviewing current business support and networking schemes will be headed up by Doug Richard, a former member of the panel on BBC2's Dragon's Den.

He claims that the current quality and quantity of state support for business "needs a complete rethink".

While the review is carried out you can find firms who offer top class business support and networking in our online directory.
