Parched Polish plumbers help beer sales rocket

Sales of Polish beer across the UK have soared thanks to thirsty plumbers and builders who originate from the country ordering it after a hard day's work.

According to brewer SABMiller, the sudden influx in Polish workers, mainly in the construction industry, has sent the sales of Tyskie Polish beer to a record high.

Consumption of the Polish booze has seen a 400 per cent rise in just 12 months, which is mainly due to tradesmen grabbing a quick pint after work.

Tyskie is Poland's largest beer brand and became available for those living in the UK in 2005. Since its launch in the country it has established a 31 per share of all Polish beer sales.

In Poland Tyskie commands around 16 per cent of the beer market.

Alan Clark, managing director of SABMiller Europe, said: "The migration of nationalities since the formation of the European Union has increased import and export volumes considerably as customers demand familiar brands."

In the next year, it is predicted that sales of Tyskie will double again to 160,000 hectolitres – the equivilant of 3.6 million pints.
