Lib Dems call for end to central heating

Builders - 13/12/2006 17:13:37

The Liberal Democrats have called for builders to develop homes in the future that do not require central heating.

Proposals by the UK's third political party come ahead of the government's report into sustainable housing, which is set to be published this week.

Liberal Democrat spokesperson for local government Andrew Stunell has said that the homes of the future should be so well built that there is no need for central heating.

He claims that this will then help the UK reduce its overall domestic emissions and that the scheme should be implemented by 2010.

Mr Stunell said: "The Code for Sustainable Homes should require all new homes from 2010 to be so well insulated and draught-proofed they don't need central heating."

He has also called on the government and homeowners to take steps to address the amount of emissions currently being produced by homes as otherwise all future proposals, including the new Code for Sustainable Homes, will be undermined.

If you'd like to turn your home into a zero carbon, low emission paradise, contact your local builders to see what suggestions they might have for improvements.
