Coventry builders get a training boost

Builders - 07/12/2006 16:35:36

Builders are set to get a boost in the new year with the announcement that a new training facility is being built in the centre ofCoventry.

The new £6.3 million building, named the Advanced Construction Technology Centre UK (ACT-UK), will see dozens of potential construction workers learn new skills which will get them into full time employment.

It is one of only two European centres which spearhead management simulation, training and development in the building field.

Harry Hammersley, ACT-UK's project manager, said: "It will ensure that construction managers will be more experienced with better and more relevant qualifications."

Representatives from the government, the construction industry and universities have praised the centre, which is due to be opened in January.

There will be two sites across the city where the facility will be based – one being built at Coventry University Technology Park and the other at New City College.
