A firm of builders in North Yorkshire has made a £10,000 donation to the development fund for the restoration of York Minster.
William Birch and Sons is one of Yorkshire's most prominent building firms covering new build construction, civil engineering, restoration and refurbishment and vehicle hire.
The £10,000 donation from the builders will go towards restoring the east front of the Minster. A complete restoration of the east front is predicted to take ten years to complete and the development fund will need £23 million to finish the job.
The piece de resistance of the east front will be the largest medieval stained glass window in the world.
Talking to the Yorkshire Post, William Birch's company chairman, Chris Birch, said: "The decision to contribute to the Minster campaign was taken by all of the shareholders and directors."
"We are all devoted to the Minster and wish to encourage the Dean and Chapter at a very crucial time in the Minster's history. Being a construction company, we are very conscious of the costs involved in a project of this scale and intricacy."
Another campaign the development committee has begun is to raise £7 million for the educational work that the Minster does and for its renowned choir.
