A woman was shocked to return home this week and find that builders had erected scaffolding on her flat.
Susan Stone, a 46-year-old lecturer at Wigan and Leigh College, found her home had been covered in metal poles and wooden planks as builders prepared to get to work.
She told the ThisisLancashire.com: "I was so worried and didn't really know what to do.
"At first I thought it might be some sort of scam and was worried the builders might come back and start taking the tiles off my roof.
"I felt that I couldn't leave the house because I didn't know what was going to happen."
After consulting a neighbour, Miss Stone discovered that builders from Hi-tec Scaffolding arrived and put the scaffolding up while she was at work.
Still confused, she contacted bosses at Hi-tec who confirmed that the work had been intended for another bungalow in the street - 12 doors away. The builders returned on Saturday to dismantle the scaffolding and apologised for the mistake. Miss Stone also received a bouquet of flowers from the company.
