Greater demand for accountancy training

Accountants - 07/07/2006 12:45:15

There are many more accountants in the UK going on specialist and very technical training courses, according to a training expert.

Si Hussain, chief executive of professional development at BPP Professional Education, said that accountants are looking to improve their level of expertise in specific aspects of the industry to meet increasing demand from companies and consumers for specialist knowledge.

He told Accountancy Age: "We are seeing a marked increase in demand for more targeted and in-depth technical training of particular standards, such as financial instruments, accounting and reporting, and deferred taxation accounting under IFRS."

Among the most popular of these courses are corporate finance for small and medium firms, strategic management accounting, handling limited liability partnerships and working in the not-for-profit charity and local government sectors.

In addition, there is an increase of accountancy firm managers being trained in so-called soft skills such as interviewing techniques and managing diversity in the workplace.
