Hi
It’s too cold and dark to go to the park after school but there’s still plenty for kids of all ages to do in the city...
Exeter Street Hall is holding a Friday Film Club on Jan 23. It’s a regular monthly event and January’s screening is the animated film The Boxtrolls, starting at 4pm. Entrance is £5 for children and includes a hot dog and soft drink. For adults, the cost is £2. For more information and to book tickets, visit www.exeterstreethall.org/tickets/
If you’re feeling creative this weekend, take the children to Hangleton library in West Way, where they can make craft items between 9.45am and 12.15pm on Saturday. The event is free but under eights must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
For the grown ups, there’s free comedy at the Greys Pub in Southover Street on Saturday, with the first monthly Comedy Studio. It kicks off at 8.30pm. The Treason Show is back at the Rialto Theatre (nearby the clocktower) following sell-out Dome performances over Christmas - Thursday 29th, 8pm.
For the even more grown up, your chance to Have Your Say in a public meeting at the Brighthelm Centre on Tuesday 27th, 7:30pm. The topic under discussion is the city council budget and how much council tax you should pay. The meeting is organised by the Brighton and Hove Independent free weekly paper and will feature local council leaders on a Q&A panel.
And it may be slightly out of town, but the South Coast Jazz Festival at the Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham sounds worth getting on your bike for. It’s happening from Friday until Sunday, with a mixture of events and workshops. ropetacklecentre.co.uk/visit/south-coast-jazz-festival/
Finally, we are particularly pleased that Brighton and Hove resident Alan H won a £100 prize draw for his recommendation of Back 2 Balance, chiropractors based in Hove. Guess which local business he decided to spend it on? Read about this story and see who is leading the Local & Loved Awards competition below. Don’t forget – there’s still time for you to vote for your favourite business in January, so get clicking!
