Hi

To Halloween or not to Halloween?

People question the wisdom of children knocking on strangers doors for Trick or Treat and prefer them to go to organised events. There are lots to choose from on the Local Events page of thebest of Lancaster as well as some for the bigger children amongst us who fancy dressing up.

As ever there are lots of other things going on in the Lancaster and Morecambe area so sit down and run through this newsletter and visit thebestof Lancaster to get a full flavour of where to go, what to do and of course support local businesses.

Mark Steel's Back in Town

The ‘Mark Steel’s in Town’ show, based on the Radio 4 series in which I write a show centred around each town, has now been to at least 5 million places. It’s a sparkling verdict on humanity that I’ve mocked them all and somehow am still alive.

Lancaster Grand Theatre

The Lancaster Grand Theatre is the third oldest operating theatre in England, originally built in 1782 during the reign of George III and then rebuilt in the Edwardian style in 1908 after a fire gutted the interior. Thanks to the commitment of the local amateur dramatic society the Lancaster Footlights the theatre was saved from demolition in the 1950s and their remarkable fundraising and management has made the theatre into a real asset for the local community.

We took our Grand Children to the Christmas Panto and we all had a terrific evening at a traditional pantomime. The two children were enthralled right from the start when some of the cast, especially King Rat's Wife came walking through the audience introducing themselves. It was an pantomime aimed at children, and our grand daughter aged 6 and grand son aged 5 were involved all the way through - stamping their feet, shouting 'he's behind you' hissing and booing at every point - and were totally engrassed all the way through. It's a long panto, nearly three hours, and to keep them absorbed completely shows how good the cast and characters were. They haven't stopped talking about the evening and have both written about their time at The Grand in their homework books to tell their teachers and friends at school when they return. Festive theatre at it's best. A brilliant evening and thank you to The Grand - It was GRAND!
