Lessons in life from Michael Jacksons death...

In the days following his death, Michael Jackson CDs, DVDs and books all saw a huge surge on Amazon. Every TV station and show scurried to attach themselves, flying reporters across the globe to cover the story. Opportunists fought for their 15 minutes on screen, leaping over Jacko’s corpse to get to a camera.

Now whilst it was great for business, death also has one obvious drawback as a career strategy! I’m sure the impressive Amazon sales stats are no consolation to Michael Jackson. His passing though is reminder of a couple of things that are worth continuous thought for all entrepreneurs:

  1. It’s not just making money that’s important - how you make your money matters just as much;
  2. We all ought to find a way to get a lot of what you really want out of life now, not in some distant future. Nothing beats today. Eating dessert first is good mantra, cos none of us knows what’s round the corner;
  3. Don’t obsess over what others may think about you – cos it ain’t worth it. They may praise you, forget about you, criticize you or ignore you but none of that is worth a spit compared to you feeling that what you did today was meaningful and the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your behaviour was as it should be today, your integrity’s intact and what you do makes you happy.

Makes you think doesn’t it. Have a great day!
