A Dunnington couple went on what they assumed to be a relaxing canal boat holiday to get away from the hustle and bustle of York. This holiday nearly ended in disaster. The Dunnington couple, mr and mrs Barton, had gone away on a canal near Birmingham when the incident happened.

Mrs Barton was on the deck attending to a gate when she banged her head and fell into the water. Mr Barton was then said to have grabbed a lifebelt and got into the water after her. He swam to her and with the help of an unnamed passer by pulled her into the boat. They struck her on the back to dislodge the water inside her but by the time the paramedics got there the situation was more or less under control.

Mrs Barton woke up in bed none the wiser of the incident. However we commend the bravery of mr Barton and the passer by who helped.

Incidentally the day was not over yet. As the stress of the indecent was said to have caused mr Barton a mini heart attack which occurred in the hospital whilst telling paramedics what had happened, thus he was given an angioplasty procedure to ensure he was ok.

He and his wife have now recovered and intend to go out on the boat again next summer. Mr Barton, you are a local hero
