Leeds Carnegie secured their 7th biggest ever win by beating Sctottish side Gala in the British and Irish cup. Although Gala opened the scoring with an early penalty, their was only one side ever in the game, and a display of fantastic running rugby allowed the Yorkshire side to win 86-8.
There were outstanding performances from Leeds players such as Dave Doherty and Robbie Marty, however man of the match went to Steve McColl. The Leeds fullback ran in a hat-trick of tries including a magnificent run from inside his own half and a long range interception.
Having been at the event, it is clear that York sports club has some of the best facilities in the county and we are proud of the entire club's effort in order to secure the fixture (with the help of Leeds chairman Sir Ian McGeechan) as well as their hospitality on the day. Over 1000 people filled Clifton Park and it is undeniable that all concerned enjoyed their day.
We take our hats off to York Sports club, particularly the Rugby club as well as Leeds Carnegie's staff and players for putting on a fantastic display of rugby, and a real showcase of the sport, and the events the city of York has to offer.
