Calon FM 105FM is Wrexham's community radio-station. And community is exactly what they're about. They've welcomed 300-community groups, charities and organisations through their studio doors for a chat. The station regularly hosts live performances from upcoming local bands and musicians, and local people with interesting stories are often invited as guests.
Since 2008, Calon's built its schedule to cater for all tastes and ages in Wrexham. In 2009, they were nominated for a Times Higher Education Award for their community work. Today, the station provides a platform for encouraging the local community to learn, develop and generate
One of the best ways they do this is their "Introduction to Radio" course - an 8-week programme offered free to residents of Wrexham. Participants will learn about the history of radio, how it works on a local level, as well as how to use radio broadcasting equipment and all aspects of producing their own show.
Local businesses can also take advantage of some great-value advertising packages available from Calon FM. Because the station broadcasts directly to the Wrexham community, adverts are guaranteed to reach their target audience. And a local business gets a chance to come and talk about themselves on their "Talking Business" show every week. The show focuses on how businesses interact with their local community, and offers them broadcasting mentoring advice.
