Here is a great activity that children can do at any age (yes, even babies!)

What you need

  • 1 piece of dark card or paper
  • 3 or 4 pieces of coloured paper (ideally 1 different colour for each person who is taking part)
  • Scissors
  • Felt tip pen

Method

  • Using the dark card, start by drawing an oval; make sure that it is slightly stretched at one end. This end will be the head.
  • Add the feet. The easiest way to draw the feet is to write a letter ’d’.
  • Cut out the body.
  • Next ask each member of the family (or whoever is taking part) to draw around their hands. The younger ones will need guidance.
  • Cut out all the hands and place them in size order.
  • Starting with the largest, glue them on to the body of the hedgehog. Continue to do this with the other hands.
  • Once all of the hands have been layered glued, add an eye to the hedgehog and leave to dry.

Alternatives:

  • Hands can be printed using paint
  • For quickness, photocopy one of each hand print.

 Happy hedgehog making!
