Changing of The Guard Windsor
Changing of The Guard Windsor
  • High Street, Windsor
    SL4 1LR
One of the highlights of a trip to Windsor

A fabulous military band, also in full uniform usually accompanies the Guards (NB subject to weather conditions)

WHERE can I see them?

The Guards march from their baracks in Kings Road, up Sheet Street, down the High Street past Windsor Guildhall and into Windsor Castle.

If you want to see the ceremony itself (this takes place outside the Guardroom in the Lower Ward of the Castle) then you need to pay to go into the Castle.

WHEN can I see them?

The March takes place all year, but obviously is dependant on the weather!

From August to March:

- The Guards march on alternate days

- The new guards walk past the Guildhall at around 10.50am and the Change ceremony is at 11am

- The returning guards return to the baracks at 11.25am

During April, May, June and July

- The Guards march daily (but never on a Sunday)

- The new guards walk past the Guildhall at around 10.50am and the Change ceremony is at 11am

- The returning guards return to the baracks at 11.25am

NB The schedule is set by the British Army and is subject to change. Check the website of the Royal Collection for the most up-to-date information.

The Traffic Stops - Literally!

Police stop the road traffic when the guards march. Traffic is controlled on the following approaches to the centre of Windsor:

- Thames Street

- the junction of Victoria Street and Sheet Street

- near the junction of Frances Road and Sheet Street.

Traffic is usually stopped between 10.45am and 11am and between 11.15am and 11.30am.
