A holiday in Thailand & the Full Moon Party - embrace or avoid??

We all have a bucket list of things to do before we die...

...but I think we should change that to amazingly achievable, things to do before we die.

On the list are all the things we think we want to achieve:

TRAVEL THE WORLD
ACHIEVE WORLD PEACE
ABOLISH POVERTY
BUY MILK

…but we probably never will…except for buying milk!

Some years ago, “Thelma and Louise” a.k.a Gwen and Kate, decided to go on an epic trip, to incredible destinations, and would like to share their mid-life crisis travel adventures with you.

In the words of Louise…’you get what you settle for’

First off, after long discussions at an award dinner at the ever impressive Gherkin in London, a plan was hatched. Gwen was drinking small but significant amounts of wine; Kate was being responsible and drinking lovely specially mixed soft drinks. After way too many of these, she found that they were cocktails…this made for an extremely eventful and mammoth trip home on public transport…including but not limited to falling head first onto the platform, in front of a packed stationary train, at Paddington Station.

Perhaps it was the blow to the head, or the cocktails, but the plan took shape and before we knew it, we were jetting off to gorgeous Thailand on a holiday.

We fancied ourselves wandering along the sun dappled streets of Ko Pha Ngan, soaking up the Thai culture, perhaps a day trip on a luxury catamaran to Angthong.  All wonderfully civilised, relaxing and rejuvenating….did this happen?

Like heck it did.

As novice researchers at the time, we scoured every brochure and nook and cranny for information about majestic Thailand. We found some amazing options and began our plans for the trip of a life time.

Full Moon Party - for the brave or young or both!

Unfortunately we didn’t take into consideration the Full Moon Party being held that month. In 1985 the Full Moon Party catered to about 30 excited travellers…nothing prepared us for the onslaught of thousands….yes thousands, of revellers.  Fire skipping ropes, alcohol buckets, psychedelic trains, drum and base and lots of drugs!

Not to mention the broken glass, burnt limbs and general alcohol induced, comatose party goers.

This would definitely appeal to the young and adventurous, but not necessarily to young at heart, but questionable bodies, of two women in shall we say ‘full bloom’.  All our preconceptions of lazing around on stunningly white sandy beaches, wallowing in azure seas, pootling about on boats and long tranquilising massages, were blown in a single bombshell of a night.

Side stepping vomit and avoiding prone bodies did not feature in our ‘Thelma and Louise’ genre of holiday.

Today, we are wiser, cleverer and perfectly positioned to be experts on how to enjoy the most from your incredible trip to Thailand.

We are practised and definitely qualified on what …and what not to, expect on your trip. Having accidently experienced a Full Moon extravaganza and then gone on to absorb the bliss of holidaying in Thailand, we can create the perfect Thai getaway for you.

From taking a long tail boat ride to stunning Bottle Beach and enjoying a jungle trail hike, to swimming in beautiful waterfalls, Ko Pha Ngang has everything you could wish for.

Elephant rides, snorkelling, beach hopping and even a bit of kite surfing makes for a varied and different break.

After a few lazy days, why not head to Haad Rin for a smidge of night life with bars right on the beach, a perfect end to a perfect day…But not in full moon season!

Having the gumption to attend a Full Moon Party is also an unbelievable experience. With the magic of the full moon on the white sandy beaches, thousands of lit lamps and impromptu firework displays, this party is a definite for the brave.

Wade out into the warm surf of the gulf, before nipping back for bite to eat with the many beach traders and then party all night long…

It's just not for ‘Thelma and Louise’!
