The Top 10 Things To Do in Windsor

Windsor is a place full of culture, beauty and lively events. It can be difficult to decide what to do since there is a huge variety of activities and places to go and so these are my top 10 things to do.

1. Windsor Castle
One of Windsor’s most renowned buildings is the castle. It is an informative day out if you’re looking for a cultured lesson on the history of Windsor as you are toured around the various rooms of the castle with a friendly guide. Furthermore admission is free to those who live in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and who have an Advantage Card.

2. Boat Rides on the River
Being so close to the River Thames means that there are many different opportunities to go out on it. There's the chance to get your own guided tour on a French Brothers river cruise for either 40 minutes or 2 hours or, if you prefer, you can also hire out your own with self drive motor boats and rowing boats available on the river.

3. Monday Nights at Windsor Race Course
For an exciting night out with good food, welcoming atmosphere and, of course, thrilling races Monday nights at the race course are perfect. The race course is easy to get to with the choice of free parking or a small fee if you want to park closer with easy entry to a great venue for a night out. You can also take a French Brothers boat from Windsor right to the raceourse and back! Perfect if you're travelling by train. You'll want to do it again every Monday.

4. Dining Out

Windsor is filled with many restaurants with tastes from around the world all in one location. Windsor’s high street alone contains a multitude of restaurants which makes going out for a meal an easy option but can prove a difficult choice when deciding where to eat!

My advice? Walk around and look at all the menus and choice - we have the world's cuisine at your feet!

5. Theatre Royal
With a variety of different shows being shown on a regular basis you are spoilt for choice when considering which show to go and see. The actors are exceptional as they perform on an intimate stage, providing an entertaining night out.

6. Alexandra Gardens
Alexandra Gardens is only a short walk from the town centre and a great area to sit for a picnic and relax in the sun or even to play mini golf or skateboard. As well as its activities section it has seasonal tourist attractions which includes an ice skating rink in the winter. Opposite is the river where you can feed the ducks and swans! http://www.windsor.gov.uk/things-to-do/alexandra-gardens-p67873

7. The Copper Horse

Windsor is a scenic place and one of the best ways to view it is beside the Copper Horse at the top of Windsor Great Park. It is a beautiful walk that doesn't require much time when following the simple path up The Long Walk towards the monument and well worth getting fresh air to see the spectacular sight. You may be lucky enough to see the deer which live there too and the view of Windsor Castle from the Copper Horse allows you to see it in all its grandeur.

8. Afternoon Picnic
For a free day out in Windsor a picnic is an ideal idea. With many places available to go and sit in this scenic town, such as by the Jubilee Fountain or in Windsor Great Park, lunch out in the summer sun is a relaxing activity for the afternoon especially when it's free and there's an unlimited amount of places to sit!

Over the bridge, a stone's throw from Windsor is The Brocas in Eton which is a wide open green space, again perfect for picnics. You'll see another unique view of Windsor Castle from here.

Finish up by wandering down Eton High Street, sampling the independent shops and boutiques and ending up at the awe-inspirinng Eton College.

As much as Windsor is a scenic town it is also know for its shops in the town centre. From High Street brands to the more expensive designer shops, Windsor has its variety in which all needs can be met and so an afternoon of shopping is never difficult!

10. Savill Gardens
It is worth travelling a little bit further to get to Savill Gardens to explore its 35 acre landscape with exotic flowers and woodlands. With a variety of different routes to take it is an adventurous trip out and just one of the many different walks to go on in Windsor with the Royal Landscape partnership.
