Windsor castle is a spectacular site which from the outside deceives the eye, it actually covers over 26 arces of land which includes the Royal palace, the Chapel, homes and workplaces of a large number of people. It has stood for over 900 years so history is abundant in all its rooms. You wouldn’t even know that it was on fire in 1992 the restoration is seamless.
The paintings alone have some of the greatest artists paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Canalet to name a few, the sheer size of some of the paintings are breath taking as well. As well as art the opulence of the furniture and fixtures and fittings are amazing, it would give an estate agent a heart attack trying to put sales pack together.
Queen Mary’s dolls house the largest in the world, It took three years to complete and involved 1,500 craftsmen, artists and authors, so quite a spectacle.
If you time it right leading up to Christmas you can see the changing of the guard at 11:00am and also a Windsor Castle Christmas Activity Trail on the 18th of December 2010.
