Bastille day came and went without too much fuss or attention on the 14th of July and you may wonder why I bring this to your attention, however in France 1790 there was the storming of the Bastille fortress prison which was seen as a symbol of the uprising of a modern nation and the reconciliation of all the French inside the constitutional monarchy, so what I hear you say! I’m not suggesting that we storm our prisons but don’t we need an uprising to find out why our country which used to be so grand and powerful is now limp and weak?
Recession, double dip recession, housing issues, lack of industry, low exports, high imports, lack of job prospects, banking crisis and as a country we are in debt with little hope to bring ourselves out of it. All of this is a bleak picture and for most of us we will just get on with our daily lives and hope that it sorts itself out, or do we get a bit more passionate about the state of this country and have an uprising against the establishments or ruling parties! It took place over 200 years ago and got results that changed the direction of their country.
I know perhaps this is all a bit dramatic and we all know that this would never happen but these are worrying times with no sign of let up, we can do what we British do best and keep the stiff upper lip and have conviction that things will improve or does it require action?
If you’re going to sit back and chill then try the Oakley Court hotel with its great views and fine cuisine.
