The Summer Reading Challenge

“I’m bored!”

As the summer holidays approach, these are the dreaded words for all parents and childminders. Of course, there are plenty of things that will keep the kids amused – that set of lego they recieved for their birthday, or their Rainbow Loom (and the hundreds of loom bands littering the living room floor). Yet, only a few days into the holidays few days and the B word makes an inevitable appearance.

Thankfully, Merton Libraries have the perfect solution for holiday boredom, (that other famous B word): Books. This year’s Summer Reading Challenge, ‘Mystical Maze’, will be running at all libraries in Merton until 13 September. All children aged 4 to 11 are invited to read six books and uncover the secrets of the Mythical Maze as they go.

After your child has read and reported back on each book, they’ll receive various rewards including a poster, stickers and medal. Once the challenge has been completed there’s also the opportunity to win one of many amazing prizes (including a tablet!) donated by sponsors. PLUS, every child who completes the challenge wins a free meal at Chipotle!

With the help of your local Merton library you can fight the boredom this summer!
