If a picture can a tell a thousand words, just think at what you can come up with thanks to 100 years worth of photography taken in and around Wimbledon and Merton.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the project tells the story of one hundred years of Merton’s history using the medium of photography.

Twenty six volunteers aged from 15 to 70 spent a year helping to scan and catalogue 15,000 photographs belonging to Merton Library and Heritage Service.

There has also been great support from heritage groups including Merton Historical Society, the Museum of Wimbledon, Wandle Industrial Museum, Mitcham Cricket Green Community & Heritage and Mitcham Camera Club.

It's thanks to the volunteers that this project has been possible.

The Merton Memories project website offers a unique and unprecedented collection to photographs dating back 150 years.
