Throughout its history, The Wimbledon Guild of Social Welfare in Merton has been described as the local social services. Today, as a charitable organisation, there is more need for the Guild than ever before.
The Wimbledon Guild is a charity offering many care services to the community throughout Merton, including:
- Counselling
- Befriending
- Advice
- Support from Social Workers
- Programme of care and activities for older people
The Wimbledon Guild is reliant on donations and legacies from local businesses and individuals throughout Merton to carry out its work.
The aims of the Charity
The main objective of The Wimbledon Guild charity is to care for people in need in Wimbledon and Merton. We promote:
- Any charitable purposes
- The furtherance of health and care
- The relief of sickness and distress
The Wimbledon Guild is one of the larger local charities in the country with roots based in the Charities Organisation Society movement of the 1860/1870's.
Over recent times requests for the Guild's services and resources have grown, and being financially independent we are able to meet most of those demands. Our independence is mainly due to legacies and donations we receive through the generosity of Wimbledon and Merton residents.

Services
The Guild works closely with other groups and charities to provide support and care in Merton.
The Guild responds quickly to requests for help, whether that's for emotional support and advice, or for practical assistance with respite care, direct financial help, clothing, form filling, or furniture.
The Wimbledon Guild offers support, care, help and advice to people of all ages including families and older people through our services which include:
- Residential & Nursing Care Homee
- Social work and welfare advice, including advocacy and signposting
- Housing
- Counselling
- Social & Activity Centre
- Volunteering support
- Grants to individuals in need

How you can help
Volunteer Opportunities
As a charitable organisation we always need the help of volunteers in the following areas:
- Administration
- Fundraising
- Writing and producing newsletters
- Help in the Social and Activity Centre
- Befriending and home-visiting the frail and housebound
- Run an interest group
- Lead activities that help others
The charity's Board of Trustees and the various sub-committees are all valued volunteers. We'd very much like you to share in our work, to help and care for others in our community, with your commitment to help us achieve it's goals.
