What is mediation?
Family Mediation is a process where the mediator - an impartial third person - helps people involved in family breakdown to make arrangements usually following a separation. Typically the separation is the result of a divorce, the breakdown of same sex relationships or relationships involving other family members.
Mediation is also used where a couple has prenuptial issues or if they are considering separation. The mediation process is managed by the mediator but the issues are brought by the couple. The objective in mediation is for clients to have an understanding about how they wish to resolve their issues.
Clients on low income may qualify for free mediation, so may wish to make mediation the first profession to call and may, if necessary, be encouraged to get legal advice during the mediation process or when it is successfully resolved.

Why mediation?
Break downs in family relationships usually lead to conflicts between former spouses, former partners, children and members of the wider family. Death or disablement in the family can also give rise to financial and other problems.
People typically turn to solicitors to resolve their problems; with mediation the mediator helps facilitate our clients to arrive at their own solutions.

Who are Family First Mediation Service?
Family First are mediators who have trained with the Family Mediators Association (FMA) and ADR; we're regulated by the Legal Services Commission and the FMA. Our mediators deal in all matters realting to financial and children issues.
Graham Lyons - a barrister since 1972, specialising in all family issues including child abuse. Graham founded the practice in 2001, having qualified as a mediator in family matters in 1998 and in civil matters in 2005.

Adrian Wright - an accredited family mediator with the Family Mediators Association (FMA) since 1994 and a leading consultant for the FMA and Resolution. Adrian has extensive experience and knowledge in conflict resolution and mediation in family matters.
