Southside House, the historic home on the edge of Wimbledon Common was badly damaged by fire in November 2010. Following eleven months of major restoration and repair, its doors will open again this Easter.
The house will be open to visitors on Saturdays, Sundays, Wednesdays and Public Holidays for tours at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm until the last Sunday in September.
Southside House was the home of Major Malcolm Munthe MC, and provides an enchantingly eccentric backdrop to the lives and loves of generations of the Pennington Mellor Munthe families. The house is maintained in traditional style without intrusive refurbishment and crowded with family possessions of centuries. Southside House has been described by Simon Jenkins as “ Not a work of art but something more precious”, and offers a wealth of fascinating family stories.
