October is national Breast Cancer Awareness month and the staff and members at local fitness club, Curves, are once again planning a whole host of fundraising activities in support of the Breast Cancer Campaign.
One woman in nine develops breast cancer at some point in their lives, so it’s an appropriate cause for this women’s only club. In fact you could say it’s an issue that’s quite literally close to their hearts!
During October, Curves’ members will be asked to donate their used bras to the club. Some of these will be given to local charity shops and every bra sold will raise £1.00 for the charity. The rest will be sent to the Breasttalk Bra Appeal and shipped (via BCR Global Textiles) to traders in third world countries. For every kilo of bras collected, BCR will make a donation of £1.00 to the Breast Cancer Campaign.
New members joining Curves in October will have their joining fee waived in return for a £20.00 donation to the charity and they’ll receive a free breast health kit.
There is a raffle and tickets will be on sale at the Curves reception throughout the month. The prizes have been donated by local businesses and members of the club - and include beauty treatments, bodycare products and other luxury items. Anyone can pop in to buy a ticket and all proceeds will go to the charity.
Curves is also holding a ‘Ladies’ Night’ at the club on 22nd October. Drinks and nibbles will be provided and local beauticians will provide tester treatments such as facials and head massages. For a small charge of £5.00, payable on the door, you’ll be able to sample as many treatments as you like.
And Barbara Hart, the manager of Curves in Weymouth is encouraging everyone to wear something pink to show their support.
“Just wear pink,” she says. “Even a pair of socks will do! We want to encourage everyone to get into the spirit of fundraising so think pink, grab a friend and come to our ladies’ night to help this hugely worthwhile charity.”
