Mobile Marketing

What is Mobile Marketing?

Mobile Marketing is a set of practices that enables organizations to communicate and engage with their audience in an interactive and relevant manner through any mobile device or network.

Tipped to be bigger than social media marketing, if we look at some of the statistics we can identify how big this market is, and possibly how it can help your business:

• Over 95% of new phones sold today have web browsers, just think how any users worldwide that equates too!
• In 2008 the annual SMS figures sent equated to over 1 trillion!
• Last September, Apple recorded 2 billion Apple iPhone App downloads

Ideas for Mobile Marketing for Your Business.

Mobile Applications & Third Party Mobile Applications

Leading applications such as Google Maps and Yelp already have a significant number of users. Ensure that you list your business on Google Maps and Google Local Business Centre to appear on popular business applications. Online there are tools for building your own iPhone App, this may be the solution for your business. If developing your own mobile application seems too much, why don't you look at third party applications and negotiate a deal with a company that already has mobile presence. Perhaps you could make an offer that will become a benefit to their users and therefore increase your own profile.

Mobile Friendly Website

It is very important to ensure that your own website is mobile friendly to enable you to tap in to the growth of the mobile web market. Search engines are starting to pay attention to the mobile space as more and more people are using the search engines on their phone.

Mobile Social Media Sites

Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter have a mobile version of their sites as well as mobile applications that have direct or indirect relationships with them. To maximise this you need to ensure that your business is listed and has an account.

Text Messaging Marketing (SMS)

SMS or text message marketing works in a very similar way to email marketing in terms of acquiring contact details to then build relationships, add value and to sell. You will need to outsource this, but be careful to ensure that you do not spam companies as you will be blacklisted and damage your own brand.  Reaction rate for SMS messages is a massive 70% according to recent mobile specific surveys, against 30% for email messages. But when you think about this, when was the last time you left a SMS message unread?

With any marketing strategy ensure that it is researched and then created to add value to your business and target market, not because of a trend.
