1st April 2015

This new countryside walking trail, which has only just been opened, follows the trail of the Abbey Line train line and runs from Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey Station. The Trail provides walk options for the keen and also perhaps the not quite so keen walker, who might prefer short hops between stations

Launched by the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership and Countryside Management Service (CMS) the new Trail allows you to now enjoy short walks between stations (one of the options is only 1¾ miles) or you can walk the full 9 miles, using the train to return.

The Trail takes you into riverside greenspaces and scenic countryside, including the Colne Valley, Munden Estate, Riverside Way and the historic Sopwell Nunnery.

You can enjoy the Abbey Line Trail at your leisure – download the leaflet or pick up a copy from the local library.  There will be monthly guided walks over the summer starting on Saturday 25th April. This will be the 3 mile Park Street to St Albans section.

This new Trail has been launched as part of the Hertfordshire Year of Walking, in a bid to get more people active across the county.

Take part in the Hertfordshire Year of Walking by pledging to walk in 2015 at www.hertsdirect.org and receive tips and advice on increasing your levels of walking and find out about lots of walking opportunities across the county.
