Car Parking in Warwick District Prices to increase...again!

Warwick District Council are proposing to increase car parking charges around Warwick District even further in April 2009. This would make it fives years in a row that car parking fees around the Warwick District will have risen.

The increase will be of around 10% on the current car parking costs. Increases will affect Warwick, Leamington and Kenilworth. Warwick's limited stay car parks in New Street, Westgate and St Mary's Land area 3 would rise from £2 to £2.20 for 2-3 hours and £2.80 to £3.00 for 3-4 hours. Warwick's Short stay car parks on Linen Street, Priory Road, The Butts and Castle Lane will increase by 20p.

Personally I'm worried about the impact of these continual rises for Warwick's local businesses. Warwick District Council estimate that £1 million will be raised through car park fees which will be reinvested in Car Parks around the Warwick District (Which includes Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth). However, from what I gather, the bulk of this money will be reinvested in Covent Garden Car Park in Leamington which won't please many of Warwick's & Kenilworth's retailers who already struggle with people being drawn to Leamington and Coventry respectively.
