Through some fantastic fundraising efforts, Cheshire based charitable trust, the Moore Foundation, have been able to make a unique donation to 14 year old Ethan Wright who lives in Tottington, Bury.

When Ethan was a toddler he was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and as a result is now confined to a wheelchair. Ethan and his family live in a modest semi-detached bungalow, which is slowly being adapted to meet his needs, but for a while now it has meant that out of school he has been staying mainly in his room, on his bed, as the only hoist they had was there in situ to take him to the bathroom.

Sadly Ethan recently lost the strength to turn the key to his home, which means that he has lost even more independence and someone has to be there to meet him from school.

His family do everything they can to support him and ensure he is safe and protected, however his limited movement has restricted the family, especially during weekends and holiday time.

To improve Ethan’s quality of life, as well as that of his family, the Moore Foundation has donated a mobile hoist to him which gives him some much deserved freedom, flexibility for the family and the opportunity to enjoy family days out and holidays. This small piece of equipment is now making such a difference to a wonderful family.

Former Manchester United player and Patron of the Moore Foundation, Lee Martin, accompanied by BBC Radio Manchester presenter, Becky Want, and the Moore Foundation’s Chairman, Nigel Garner, went to Ethan’s home to present the hoist to him. As a huge Manchester United fan, Ethan was delighted to meet Lee and talk to him about his time playing for the club.

Nigel comments, “It was an absolute joy to be able to help such a lovely young man and his family. To see one piece of equipment making such a big difference in many aspects of Ethan’s life, and that of his family, is so humbling. Without the help and donations made by our supporters, this would not have been possible, so I’d like to thank everyone who has given so generously and attended our events over the last 12 months.”

The Moore Foundation is a charitable trust based in Cheshire and provides financial and practical relief to local children’s charities and worthy causes. The Foundation was established in 2005 when it was noted that suitable funding was slow to reach the smaller charitable organisations in the region, as well as many disadvantaged and disabled children being found to have unsuitable support equipment and treatment.
