Animal welfare is an important part of people's lives. It seems this country has a huge love for all kinds of animals with a large proportion of the population owning a pet. Cats and dogs are by far the most popular but a wide range of lesser known
species have become much loved pets in the home.
The Chestnut Veterinary Group is the local areas oldest and most experienced vets. Established in 1905 The Chestnut Veterinary Group has built up from its historical roots from Fore Street Hertford, to 3 practices covering Hertford and Ware.
With a large team of dedicated, fully trained and experienced staff working between the 3 practices The Chestnut Veterinary Group is very well placed to handle animal welfare in Hertford and Ware to the highest degree. Nearly all members of staff are proud pet owners and all are certainly animal lovers. This shines through when clients bring their pets in for treatment. The level of care received is second to none, with each patient treated like they are at home.
An example of The Chestnut Veterinary Group's concerns for animal welfare in Hertford and Ware is Scooter, the Hoe Lane practice cat. Scooter has no use of her back legs after being brought into the vets following falling from a flat window. As the name suggests Scooter gets around the practice by 'scooting' using her front legs! Scooter is a much loved and cared for cat, and is known amongst staff and clients alike. In most circumstances an animal in Scooter's condition would have been put to sleep, but the staff decided that Scooter could still enjoy a rich and happy life at the practice.
The Chestnut Veterinary Group are very well equipped to deal with any kind of treatment needed for animals. They regularly carry out in depth surgery, medical treatments, as well as routine treatments such as vaccinations and worming.

All staff are always cheerful and very helpful. On my latest visit had excellent Pet Passport up-to-date info, with the latest best vaccination and most suitable tick/flea and worming treatment. The vet spent real quality time talking through the best options for overseas travel. They also seem to be very animal loving people. It feels like a family run type of business, though isn't. Very welcoming, friendly atmosphere wouldn't go anywhere else
Fabulous service - the best Vets ever. Caring staff at all levels, including the receptionists, office staff, nurses and vets. We moved out of the area but prefer to continue to use Chestnuts even though it's now over an hour round trip - we wouldn't trust our beloved pets with anyone else. Could not recommend more strongly !

I always use the Ware Rd branch, Hertford and have been very impressed with their small animal/ bird care. They have provided excellent care for my rabbits- Flopsy has had an anaesthetic for dental work several times and she has always made a good recovery- so far she has lived to the ripe old age of 8 and is still in good health despite also having had GI tract problems.They are a caring, sensitive practice.Michelle is very gentle and patient with our budgie when his beak needs trimming!
